Sightsavers Netra Vasant – Rural Eye Health Project Makes Inroads in Hazaribag, Jharkhand

A mega eye assessment camp at Amrit Nagar, Hazaribag marked the onset of Sightsavers’ Netra Vasant – Rural Eye Health Project in the region. The camp organized by Nav Bharat Jagriti Kendra (NBJK) and LNJP Eye Hospital, Chouparan was supported by BFIL. It witnessed a huge turnout of the local rural community members of all age groups who got their vision screened for any anomaly and got refracted.

The event was inaugurated by Dr. Rajendra Paswan, SPO, NPCB, Jharkhand in Presence of Sri Sudipta Mohanty, Area Director, Sightsavers, East Area Office, Sri (Representative from BFIL), Dr. H.B.Barwar, Civil Surgeon, Dr. Rubi Lakra, ACMO, Hazaribag and Sri Satish Giriza, Secretary.

Hazaribag is one the districts in Jharkhand which has a low Cataract Surgery Rate (CSR). Thus, the need of intervention in eye health was of utmost significance. “Sightsavers has recently signed an MoU with the state Government with a larger goal of reaching the state average of CSR in the district. We aim to perform at least 1000 surgeries till March in Hazaribagh,” said Sudipta Mohanty, Area Director, Sightsavers, East Area Office.

On the occasion, Sightsavers focused on essence and strategy of collaboration with NPCB, Govt of Jharkhand, BFIL and NBJK on Netra Vasant- Rural Eye Health Project in Jharkhand.
