Saba's story

Saba, 14, attends a government school in Hazaribag, Jharkhand. She is from a remote village in the Hazaribag district. Saba has visual impairment since birth.

Saba found it difficult to attend school on a regular basis due to a lack of accessibility. Her academic performance was consistently below par. Saba was identified and connected with the Sightsavers Inclusive Education team in Jharkhand some time ago. Following the clinical and functional assessments, she was given a series of compensatory skill training, a smart phone, and accessible books. Sightsavers trained her school teachers to provide Saba with learning solutions.

Saba’s academic performance has gradually improved since Sightsavers’ intervention. Saba’s father stated that Saba’s confidence has grown as a result of accessible and inclusive education, and he anticipates her daughter reaching several milestones.
