Brihaspati’s story

'Brihaspati overcomes low vision'

His problem with vision became evident in class two when he started struggling with reading and writing. His performance in the class dropped, and so did his confidence.
It was during a Sightsavers education project survey when the village head informed us (i.e. Sightsavers) about Brihaspati. The initial assessment revealed that he suffered from low vision and had to be clinically tested to ascertain the nature and the kind of device that could help improve his vision.

Brihaspati overcomes low vision with a magnifier

Brihaspati underwent clinical assessment and was recommended a dome-5X magnifier and an easy reading desk to help him cope with his low vision. Soon after, Sightsavers supported Brihaspati with the device.

Today, Brihaspati studies in class four with the help of this device. He no longer feels any strain on his eyes and happily participates in class. His confidence is back, and he’s performing well in his exams.

Sightsavers is working with more than 100 low vision children like Brihaspati in the district of Purulia. It has been instrumental in preventing children like him from going blind, while also ensuring that they continue to receive the quality education they need to become productive and independent later in life.
