Rajaram Ramnath's story

Rajaram Ramnath Mhatre, 72 and Geeta Rajaram Mhatre, 66 live in Bhandup slums of Mumbai. Married for over 40 years, the old couple has just one daughter, who is now married. The old man worked as a car cleaner in the vicinity to support his wife and him, while she did all household chores.

The couple started complaining of blurry vision since last year. But it was only in February 2017 that they visited Sightsavers supported Nahaur Vision Centre to get their eyes screened. Cataract was detected in their eyes. The Mhatres’ were referred to Sightsavers partner hospital, KBHB hospital for surgery and were operated in June 2017. The couple is happy to once again lead a life of independence and normalcy.
